Module 4 Paper 2

Q You can turn in paper #2 early here below for early bonus points (up to 11:59 on 3/18). Regarding turning in stuff here, you upload your file. I prefer that you have it done in WORD. I will not bother with anything in google and don't like pdf. I discussed this assignment earlier, but here is the info from the syllabus as a reminder: This paper will be a formal typed, cover page, one inch borders, 12 size, double-spaced, no extra space between paragraphs. left justified, appropriate English usage (spelling, grammar, paragraphing, organization, topic sentences, etc.), A.P.A. style (no abstract), reference section, etc. paper. Manuals on A.P.A. style are available at the bookstore and the library, and I will provide a basic tutorial in canvas. You can use another style (MLA, etc.) if you like, just indicate what you are doing on the cover page. Also, you are not required to use any style until the Michael Moore paper. Additional guidelines and evaluation criteria may be given later in the assignment page. These papers are done in the spirit of and in place of midterm/final take-home exams. 5. Michael Moore paper. Love him or hate him, as a student of Sociology, you should be familiar with him. You will watch one of his movies on your own. You will discuss any one of his movies as it relates to our class info in another formal two- three page paper. For these first two midterms, I will be EXTREMELY picky about the length. Your paper must be at least two full pages, no messing with spacing, font, etc. You should know that I have shaved off a page for these two assignments compared to how I usually do these assignments in my other classes, so I will be sending your paper back to you ungraded if your paper is too short. More on this in the assignment page. Expectations, options, and even points rise. This activity is worth 150 pts. Some additional suggestions: DON'T give me a report of every aspect of the video step by step. This is not a video report. It is a midterm with a theme/focus on something from the work of a modern day applied sociologist. Your goal is to prove you have been doing the readings, watching the videos, and watching the zooms. You CAN jump to other portions of Conley we haven't read yet, especially the politics chapter.

For this paper I chose the Michael Moore movie, “Capitalism: A Love Story”. This movie went over in detail about the successes and failures of the American capitalist system. This film examined the impact of corporate dominance on the everyday lives of Americans. Moore goes into the homes of ordinary people whose lives have been turned upside down; and he goes looking for explanations in Washington, DC and elsewhere. What he finds are the all-too-familiar symptoms of a love affair gone astray: lies, abuse, betrayal...and 14,000 jobs being lost every day.
